How much does a new boiler cost in the Cotswolds?

Short answer

Local firms publish like-for-like combi swaps from about £1,495 plus VAT to £2,000. A change from a regular boiler to a combi costs more: one Gloucester firm quotes £3,500 to £4,800 plus VAT. A national survey puts an oil boiler at about £3,300 fitted. Prices vary; get at least three written quotes.

What local firms charge for a new gas boiler

Local published prices for a simple combi swap start at about £1,495 plus VAT. We found three firms near the Cotswolds that publish boiler prices on their own websites. Most local firms do not publish a price. They quote after a survey.

A "from" price is the lowest price. It usually assumes a like-for-like swap in the same place, with no pipe or flue changes. Check if the price includes VAT.

What makes a boiler cost more in the Cotswolds

A change of boiler type adds most to the cost. A regular boiler to combi change removes tanks and changes pipes. The Gloucester firm above prices it well above a straight swap.

Moving the boiler adds cost, because the gas pipe, flue and condensate pipe must move.

Oil and LPG boilers often cost more than mains gas boilers. Off-grid homes are common in the Cotswolds. An oil boiler may also need work on the oil line or tank.

Flues in old stone houses can be harder. A long or vertical flue, or a flue that needs consent on a listed building, adds cost.

A new boiler needs a carbon monoxide alarm in the room, and often a filter and system flush. Ask if these are in the price.

How to compare boiler quotes

Prices vary; get at least three written quotes. Give each firm the same facts: the current boiler, the number of bathrooms and where you want the new boiler.

  • Ask if the price includes VAT.
  • Ask which boiler make and model the price is for, and the warranty length.
  • Ask if the flue, controls, filter and flush are included.
  • Check the engineer on the Gas Safe Register, or OFTEC for oil.
  • Ask for the Building Regulations certificate when the job is done.

Questions

Is there a grant for a new gas or oil boiler?

Not from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. It funds heat pumps and some biomass boilers only. Check GOV.UK for any help you may get with energy bills.

Why do boiler prices vary so much?

The job varies. A like-for-like swap is the cheapest. Moving the boiler, changing its type or adding a cylinder costs more.

Do I get a certificate for a new boiler?

Yes. A Gas Safe engineer notifies the council through Gas Safe Register. You get a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate by post, usually within 10 to 15 working days.
